If you can’t climb it, sip it!
Not only can you ascend the Dentelles de Montmirail by foot, mountain bike and harness for some of the most stunning 360 views of Provence, it is also home to some of the best vintage wines France has to offer! You may have heard of Gigondas, Vacqueras, Baumes de Venise, Sablet and Seguret…If not, get tasting!
The vineyards of these stunning perched villages are set on the slopes that lead up to the Dentelles de Montmirail, and the red is particularly popular for giving a distinctively heavy palette.
Gigondas vineyards, The Dentelles de Monmirail
You could also climb it, then sip it!
I’ve done this before! I love hiking in the Dentelles. It’s not the hardest of trails nor the longest and it’s perfectly shaded by oaks and breezy enough up top to cool you down in the summer (sometimes a tad too breezy; I nearly got blew off once, so check the weather forecast!).
Round the day off by popping into some wine cellars for a dégustaion. Pay Mathieu a visit in the Paillère et Pied Gû cellar in Gigondas for a humorous and informative tasting.
The Dentelles de Montmirail resembles giant vertical jagged teeth soaring out of the vineyards into the pure blue sky. Surrounded by stunning villages, Provençal agriculture and adventure this is a number one holiday destination.
